Srivilliputhur (Srivilliputtur or Thiruvilliputtur) is one of the temple towns in Tamilnadu. It is located in Virudhunagar district, Tamilnadu.
Srivilliputhur is the birthplace of two Alwars (Devotee of Lord Vishnu) namely Periyalwar and Andal. There are two big temples which are dedicated to Andal and Vadapadrasayi (Lord Vishnu), located at the center of the town. Vadapadrasayi temple has the 2nd tallest tower in Tamilnadu. This tower (Gopuram) was built in the 8th century. The temple car belongs to this temple is one of the largest in India. It is decorated with carvings from the scriptures.

Sri Andal Temple
The Aadipooram is the 12 day long festival celebrated every year in the Tamil month of Aadi. The famous Temple Car Procession in the streets of Ratha Veethi around the temple is the part of this festival. There is another big temple dedicated to Lord Siva (Vaidyanathar swamy) at Madavar valagam. This is the oldest Siva temple in this region.

There is a wildlife sanctuary which is located 10 km away from this town in the western ghats. This is the only home for the giant grizzled squirrels. This town receives more rainfalls from North-East Monsoon. The best time to visit Srivilliputhur is from September to March.

Cotton Research Station (part of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore) is functioning since 1950 in this town. It is recognized as a leading center for Medium Staple Cotton Improvement. This center  has developed and released several variety of cotton crop.

Transport Facility

Srivilliputhur is well connected by road and rail with all major towns in the state. The nearest airport is in Madurai, 75 km away from the town. From Madurai, bus service is available by the state government transport corporation. SETC (State Express Transport Corporation) operates regular buses from Chennai to Srivilliputhur. Government Hospital, Daily vegetable Market, grocery stores, supermarkets and other main shops are located near the bus stand.

ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர்

கோயில் நகர் எனச் சிறப்புடன் அழைக்கப்படும் ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர் தமிழ்நாட்டில் விருதுநகர் மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. பெருமை வாய்ந்த இவ்வூரில் புராதனச்சிறப்புமிக்க கோயில்கள் உள்ளன. புகழ் பெற்ற ஸ்ரீஆண்டாள் திருக்கோயில், ஸ்ரீவடபத்திர சயனர் திருக்கோயில் ஆகிய இரு பெருங்கோயில்கள் இந்நகரின் மையத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இக்கோயிலின் இராஜகோபுரமே தமிழக அரசின் சின்னமாக உள்ளது.

இவ்வூரின் மேற்கே அமைந்துள்ள மேற்குத்தொடர்ச்சி மலைத்தொடர் அடர்ந்த காடுகளின் இருப்பிடமாகவும், வனவிலங்குகளின் உறைவிடமகவும் உள்ளது. திருமங்கலம்-கொல்லம் தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலை (என்.எச்.744) இந்நகரின் வழியாகச் செல்கிறது. நகரிலிருந்து 11 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவில் இராசபாளையம் மற்றும் 20 கிலோ மீட்டர் தொலைவில் சிவகாசி நகரும் அமைந்துள்ளன.

Srivilliputhur Palkova

Srivilliputhur is well known for the sweet called Palkova. The famous Srivilliputhur Palkova received Geographical Indication (GI) tag in September 2019 from the Geographical Indications Registry of India. The unique taste of Palkova comes from milk of cows raised in and around this area. More than 1000 are involved in this business of making, selling and exporting this sweet product.

A small waterfall called meen vetti parai aruvi [மீன் வெட்டிப்பாறை அருவி] is located in the western ghats of Senpagathoppu region of Srivilliputhur. It is one of the tourist attraction during rainy season.
